Washington County Public Health begins offering Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) services today. The NFP program provides nurse home visitation services to low-income, first-time mothers.

May 15-21, 2016, is National Prevention Week, an annual observance to increase public awareness and action around mental health and substance use disorders. Several public events are taking place in Washington County before and during Prevention Week.

Beginning May 3, Neighborhood Health Center will hold a walk-in teen clinic every Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. at the Hillsboro clinic located at 266 W. Main Street.

Washington County Department of Health and Human Services will present the 14th Annual Public Health Recognition Awards on Tuesday, April 5, 11:30 a.m., in the Public Services Building cafeteria, 155 N. First Ave, Hillsboro. A reception with refreshments as well as interactive, fun and educational public health displays will immediately follow the ceremony.

The Washington County Solid Waste & Recycling Program has released the new Garbage and Recycling Day tool to help residents find answers to common questions about curbside garbage and recycling collection service.

Washington County has announced its participation in the National Association of Counties (NACo) “Live Healthy” Discounts Program, which allows them to offer all county residents the opportunity to save money with discounts on prescriptions as well as dental and health services and procedures. This is not an insurance program.

The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) programs of Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties are launching a new method for families to get WIC foods. “eWIC” provides families with EBT (electronic benefit transaction) cards, replacing the paper vouchers currently used to get WIC-approved foods such as milk, eggs, produce and baby food.

Six-week series for caregivers begins at three locations starting in January 2016

On October 6, the Washington County Board of Commissioners approved new rules to protect the public’s health by reducing wood smoke. The ordinance goes into effect today, Friday, November 6, 2015. The ordinance is designed to raise awareness of wood smoke as a health issue and prevent unnecessary burning when the air quality is particularly poor.

Washington County Disability, Aging and Veteran Services Family Caregiver Support Program is sponsoring a free “Coffee and Conversation” on November 19, for seniors in the LGBT community. Their friends, family members and caregivers are also welcome to attend.

The annual ceremony takes place on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at 11 a.m.

The 12th annual Washington County Family Caregivers Conference will take place on Friday, November 6, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., at Tuality Health Education Center

Washington County health officials are encouraging parents to make sure their children’s (and their own) immunizations are up to date. Individuals can see their health care provider, go to their school-based health center, or consider attending one of several immunization clinics taking place across the county over the next several weeks.
