Building Services, Development Review/Current Planning and Long Range Planning will be closed for in-person services Dec. 25-27, 2024, and Jan. 1-3, 2025. Online and phone services and in-person appointments will continue, and staff will be working in the office.

8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Closed to in-person services Friday. Most of our services are available remotely - online, by phone or via U.S. Mail - 24 hours/day, seven days a week. See Office Locations and Business Hours.
Data Snack: Trends in Residential Building Permits
Despite COVID and economic fluctuations, construction of single-family and multifamily dwelling units has remained relatively steady – particularly in Washington County.
From 2019 through 2023, permits for15,257 housing units were issued by Washington County and the cities within Washington County. This included permits for 9,057 single-family dwelling units and 6,218 for multifamily dwelling units.

Washington County (as per ORS Chapter 455 and 478 and the Home Rule Charter) regulates nuisances, construction, abatement of nuisances and administration of standards, including enforcing the State of Oregon Building Code.
The Washington County Code applies to construction, alteration, moving, demolition, repair, maintenance and work related to buildings/structures, except those located in a street, alley or parcel open to the outside air leading to a street or open to public use (public way).
