Washington County Disability, Aging and Veteran Services Family Caregiver Support Program and Tuality Healthcare are sponsoring a six-week educational series called Powerful Tools for Caregivers.

Participants can sign up for one of the following locations by calling 503-846-3089:

  • Southminster Presbyterian Church, 12250 SW Denny Road, Beaverton, Thursdays, January 14 – February 18, 1:30 –4 p.m.
  • Home Instead Office, 1400 NE 48th Ave, Suite 107, Hillsboro, Wednesdays, January 27 – March 2, 1 –3:30 p.m.
  • Tualatin Public Library, 18878 SW Martinazzi, Tualatin, Tuesdays, February 16 – March 22, 1:30 –3 p.m. (condensed curriculum)

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is designed to help unpaid family caregivers take care of themselves while they are caring for a relative or friend with a chronic illness. Participants will learn how to reduce personal stress, communicate their needs effectively in challenging situations, deal with difficult emotions and make tough caregiving decisions.

The series is appropriate for anyone helping a parent, spouse or friend. The person in their care may live at home, in a facility or across the country. Participants should plan on attending all six sessions.

There is a suggested donation of $30 to help defray the cost of the book, but payment is not required to attend the class. Class size is limited, and registration is required by calling 503-846-3089.
