Kidnapping Phone Scam Targets Washington County

Several county residents have reported that an unknown caller told them a family member was being held hostage. During the calls, realistic-sounding screams and yelling could be heard in the background. The caller demanded ransom money in order to release the hostage. There is no evidence in the reports that anyone has actually been kidnapped or harmed.

Eclipse could cause cosmic traffic jam. An estimated 1 million people are expected to hit Oregon roads to view the Aug. 21 eclipse. ODOT and other transportation-related agencies are making preparations to handle the traffic volume. All motorists should anticipate significantly increased traffic on Monday, Aug. 21, once the eclipse is over and travelers are heading home.

Family Caregivers Series Offered Online for First Time

Washington County Disability, Aging and Veteran Services and Tuality Healthcare have been sponsoring Powerful Tools for Caregivers, a six-week in-person education program, for many years. This fall, they are offering a class for people who are unable to attend the class in person. Caregivers will be able to participate in the class at home using their own computer and internet connection.
