Several rural roads will be chip sealed this summer to preserve the road surface and extend the life of the road. This work will cause short-term inconvenience, but the result is a long-term benefit.

Timber Road between Strassel Road and OR 6/Wilson River Highway will reopen early following replacement of a culvert.

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation's seismic testing of Scoggins Dam will impact traffic at Hagg Lake starting June 13. West Shore Drive across the dam will remain open, but only one-way southbound traffic will be allowed.

When it comes to Washington County roads, safety is the No. 1 priority. However road maintenance funding - primarily from gas taxes and fees - is not meeting the growing need for road, bridge and culvert repair and replacement.

The Road Maintenance Program approved by the Washington County Board of Commissioners includes more than 60 miles of road paving or sealing.

County crews and the contractor Apply-A-Line will be repainting road stripes on rural and urban roads throughout the summer.

New weight limits on five County bridges are now in effect. The restrictions will remain in place until the bridges are repaired or replaced.

New proposals for small-scale road improvements received by July 15 will be considered in the next round of project selection. To be eligible, proposals must address a safety or connectivity issue on a County road.
