When it comes to Washington County roads, safety is the No. 1 priority. However road maintenance funding - primarily from gas taxes and fees - is not meeting the growing need for road, bridge and culvert repair and replacement.
Washington County Department of Land Use &Transportation (LUT) is educating the public about the safety implications of the maintenance funding shortfall. LUT has launched a new website, KeepRoadsSafe.org, focused on the effect the maintenance funding shortfall is having on the safety of our roads. The site includes the video Maintenance: Keeping Our Roads and Bridges Safe which summarizes the issues.
"We are committed to keeping the roads in Washington County safe for all travelers," said Andrew Singelakis, director of LUT. "We want to make sure that people understand the safety implications of delaying road and bridge maintenance."
Visit KeepRoadsSafe.org to learn more and to share thoughts and suggestions on road maintenance funding.
Washington County is committed to working with our partner agencies in planning, building and maintaining a great transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users, and operating the County roadway system in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner.
