Washington County has eliminated homeless encampments

Mar 31, 2024 - Washington County leaders say they have achieved what many communities throughout the country are working to do: eliminate homeless encampments. Using their share of the tri-county area's Metro homelessness services tax, intended to fund supportive housing, shelter, eviction prevention and behavioral health care, they built a homelessness services system from the ground up. Washington County motel turned shelter helping dozens of Tigard families turn a corner

Jun 13, 2024 - Washington County is taking a unique approach to boost up some of its most vulnerable students. Over the past year, the nonprofit Family Promise of Tualatin Valley has transformed a motel into a shelter. It has 70 rooms supporting families, housing over 200 people at any given time. Washington County Housing Careers Program showing real promise

Jun 6, 2024 - Gennesis Morris is a case manager at a homeless shelter in Washington County. She knows her clients’ struggles first hand. But she credits a paid internship from the county’s Housing Careers Program for transforming her life and helping her as a single mom. “This changed my life completely,” Morris told KOIN 6 News. “I think I would’ve been maybe still in my addiction. I think this internship gave me hope again and let me know that my lived experience is everything and that’s how I better serve participants.” Read more at Koin.com.
