A Hillsboro man remains hospitalized after being assaulted at an early morning party. Deputies found the victim with severe injuries to his head and face.

Detectives began an investigation in 2012 after a cognitively-delayed child came forward and reported that Luis Bautista had sexually abused her when she was younger. Mr. Bautista was sentenced to 99 months in prison for his crimes.

Several county residents have reported that an unknown caller told them a family member was being held hostage. During the calls, realistic-sounding screams and yelling could be heard in the background. The caller demanded ransom money in order to release the hostage. There is no evidence in the reports that anyone has actually been kidnapped or harmed.

Washington County Sheriff Pat Garrett participated in a panel discussion which addressed the topic of “Responses to Hate from Local & Federal Law Enforcement Agencies.” The panel was part of the Portland Hate Crimes Forum, an afternoon event hosted by the Coalition Against Hate Crime and held at the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education in Portland.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Beaverton Police Department, and Forest Grove Police Department are deploying medication in patrol vehicles to save the lives of those having an opioid drug overdose.

A 68-year-old swimmer drowned Sunday afternoon at Henry Hagg Lake in western Washington County. Deputies recovered his body early Monday morning.
