Metro area Sheriff’s Offices from Clackamas, Marion, Multnomah, Washington, and Yamhill Counties will be increasing their DUII patrols during this Memorial Day holiday weekend. Deputies will be out in force working in a regional effort to identify and arrest DUII drivers and other aggressive drivers.

Over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday weekend, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit participated in a joint operation with law enforcement partners to conduct a high-visibility-enforcement mission (HVE).

WCSO deputies assigned to patrol and to the Traffic Safety Unit collaborated on a non-traditional enforcement mission in Aloha. Deputies focused on educating the public on Oregon's hands-free law, which prohibits the use of an electronic device both while driving and also while stopped in traffic.

During a two week nationwide traffic safety enforcement mission, deputies assigned to the WCSO Traffic Safety Unit conducted 518 traffic stops. Of those stopped, 398 citations were issued and 217 warnings were given. In addition to seat belt violations, deputies concentrated their efforts on stopping drivers for speeding and using mobile devices.
