Becoming an adult can be hard. It can be even harder if you have a mental illness. Washington County has two specialized programs that help youth as they transition into adulthood.
Our Transition Age Youth Intensive Services (TAYIS) supports youth moving from the children’s mental health system to the adult system of care. This program helps adolescents and young adults with complex needs. The goal is to help people become as independent as possible. Staff focus on issues youth face like moving into their own housing, going to school and getting a job. Services may include:
- Intensive case management
- Job support
- Housing support
- Education support
- Counseling
- Medication
Services are provided by a team of clinicians who help support the unique needs of each person. Services may be provided both in the community and at the office. These services are for people between the ages of 16 and 24.
The Early Assessment and Support Alliance (EASA) is a program designed for adolescents and young adults who are experiencing first symptoms of a psychotic disorder. The goal of the program is to help individuals learn how to manage their disorder while also learning how to become an adult. There is a strong focus on school, work and living independently. Services may include:
- Skills training
- Case management
- Therapy
- Low-dose prescribing
This program also provides support to family members. EASA uses an intensive case management model with a variety of team members. Different team members will provide different services. EASA is available for people between the ages of 12 and 24.
There are no insurance or income requirements for this program. To qualify, an individual must have a covered psychotic disorder that began within the last 12 months. Program eligibility will be determined through a screening process.
Visit the EASA website for more information.
