On Thursday, February 21, 2019, at 9:17 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to multiple reports of gunfire heard in the area of Southwest Farmington Road and Southwest 192nd Avenue in Aloha.

Between the dates of February 4 and February 17, 2019, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted 370 traffic stops during our enhanced seat belt patrols. In addition to issuing citations for drivers not wearing seatbelts, deputies also cited drivers for other issues related to driver safety.

On Friday, February 15, 2019, at 6 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a single vehicle crash at NW Bronson Road and NW Roseburg Terrace in the community of Bethany.  A witness reported seeing a car leave the road and hit a tree.  Responding emergency crews had to extricate the driver, 27-year-old Zachary Benjamin of Hillsboro.  Mr. Benjamin was taken to a Portland hospital with life-threatening injuries.  On Sunday, February 17, Mr. Benjamin died at the hospital.

The pedestrian killed in last night’s crash on Southwest Tualatin Valley Highway in Aloha is being identified as 52-year-old James Dougherty of Beaverton. The eastbound lanes of TV Highway were reopened to the public shortly after 1 a.m. The investigation is ongoing.

During the month of January, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 56 individuals for impaired drivers. Deputies would like to remind the public that impaired driving is a one hundred percent preventable offense, and to always plan a sober ride home.

Ms. Short was located early Thursday morning at a warming shelter by Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office deputies. She was uninjured and has been reunited with her family. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank the public, news media, and local community partners for their assistance.

On Tuesday, February 5, 2019, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies serving the community of Aloha arrested a man for stealing a package from a neighbor living in the same apartment complex.

On January 10, 2019, detectives with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Property Crimes Unit began investigating suspected financial elder abuse of an 88-year-old Beaverton woman. The report was received through the Department of Human Services’ statewide abuse reporting hotline from a local credit union.

On Sunday, February 3, 2019, at 2:02 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a burglary in progress at a residence in the 3000 block of SW 331st Ave in unincorporated Hillsboro. A homeowner confronted a male suspect as he was leaving the property. When confronted by the homeowner, the suspect turned over the stolen guns and fled on foot.
