Driver Arrested for Multiple Crimes After Fleeing From a Traffic Stop

On March 18th, 2024, a Washington County Sheriff's Office deputy observed a stolen vehicle, a 1999 Honda Civic, driving on the roadway near SW 84th Ave. and SW Barnes Rd. The deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver fled.

On March 18th, 2024, a Washington County Sheriff's Office deputy observed a stolen vehicle, a 1999 Honda Civic, driving on the roadway near SW 84th Ave. and SW Barnes Rd. The deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver accelerated at a high rate of speed and fled.

Although the deputy lost sight of the Honda, other deputies in the area were alerted and joined the search for the stolen vehicle. A short time later, a deputy located the Honda near NW West Union Rd. and NW Laidlaw Rd., still traveling at a high rate of speed. Another deputy positioned south of the location successfully used spike strips to deflate the vehicle's tires.

The stolen vehicle came to a stop in the area, and the driver attempted to escape on foot. However, one of the deputies gave chase and quickly apprehended him. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Jorge Guerrero-Torres, displayed signs of intoxication and admitted to using cocaine a few hours prior.

During the investigation, a firearm was discovered near the stolen vehicle, which Guerrero-Torres claimed belonged to him. Further inquiry revealed that the gun had been reported stolen in Beaverton.

Guerrero-Torres was transported to the Washington County jail and charged with several offenses:

  • Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer (Felony)
  • Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer (Misdemeanor)
  • Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a stolen vehicle
  • Theft in the first degree
  • Driving under the influence of intoxicants
  • Reckless driving
  • Felon in possession of a firearm
