On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at around 3 p.m., the Washington County Sheriff's Office received a report of a traffic crash in the 12000 block of NW Ashton Dr. The incident involved a 2017 Dodge Ram truck and a young child.

Update: Additional Information Released on Fatal Traffic Crash

On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at around 3 p.m., the Washington County Sheriff's Office received a report of a traffic crash in the 12000 block of NW Ashton Dr. The incident involved a 2017 Dodge Ram truck and a young child. Deputies from the Sheriff's Office and the Banks Fire District arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance to the child. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the child passed away.

The crash occurred on NW Ashton Dr., and the driver of the vehicle was identified as 31-year-old Jesus Zavala-Ochoa. Zavala-Ochoa remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. The investigation is ongoing, and no criminal charges have been filed at this time.

The child was under five years old and was not enrolled in school. Due to Oregon public records laws, no further details about the child will be released.


Fatal Traffic Crash Involving One Vehicle and a Pedestrian

On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, shortly before 3 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a traffic crash in the 12000 block of NW Ashton Dr. in the city of Banks. The crash involved a single vehicle and a child. Banks Fire District arrived along with deputies to attempt life-saving efforts. Unfortunately, the child did not survive.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. There is no indication that speed, alcohol, or drugs were involved.

The identity of the people involved in the crash are not being released at this time.
