Media release

On September 24, 2023, at 12:55 a.m., deputies were called to a crash on SW 175th Avenue near SW Cooper Mountain Lane. A homeowner in the area called 911 to report a car went off the road, rolled over, and ended up in a small ravine on the property.

Deputies arrived within minutes and found a 2014 Ford Focus had landed on its wheels but was more than 20 feet off the road and the driver had been killed in the crash. Deputies identified the driver as 19-year-old Jesse Wargnier of Beaverton and deputies have spoken with his family. Deputies do not believe Wargnier was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. There were three other people in the car, ages 18, 19, and 20, and all of them were taken to area hospitals; none of them have life-threatening injuries.

The inter-agency Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team responded to help investigate the crash. The Remotely Operated Vehicle Team also brought a drone to the scene to take photos. The road was closed for about seven hours while deputies gathered evidence.

Deputies learned the car was coming from a party at a house in Sherwood and believe speed, alcohol, and controlled substances may be contributing factors to the crash. Anyone with information about the party is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 503-846-2700.
