There are four Urban Growth Boundaries (UGBs) in Washington County. Land inside a UGB support urban services. Land outside a UBG support rural uses such as forestry and farms.

SW 209th Avenue is being improved between Alexander Street and Kinnaman Road. Construction began in 2022.

Working in coordination with city, regional and state government partners, about  300 Land Use and Transportation employees provide  transportation, planning, permitting and road maintenance services for all who live, work and travel in Washington County.

In Washington County, Gain Share funds are allocated by the Board to public services such as transportation and schools. This helps offset the impacts to transportation infrastructure and other local public services that result from additional jobs.

Safe and affordable housing options are vital to creating healthy communities. Worrying about housing is stressful and can have health impacts. In addition, children without housing may struggle in school.

Washington County is committed to active transportation. Road improvement projects to fill sidewalk gaps, Safe Routes to School program facilitation & development of bicycle lanes separated from traffic/pedestrian facilities demonstrate that commitment.

MSTIP is a county-wide program that has paid for more than 160 projects in Washington County and the cities within Washington County.

The Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program 3f funding allocation supports 13 capital (street) projects, the MSTIP Opportunity Fund, rural bridge replacements, Intelligent Transportation System investments and a new Large Project Match Fund.
