Cornelius Pass Road to be impacted by cleanup project. Traffic on Cornelius Pass Road will be disrupted on Easter weekend as the County’s contractor completes the cleanup of contaminated soil resulting from a gasoline spill caused when a double tanker truck overturned in January.

An agreement that will initiate transportation improvements around the Nike campus was approved by the Washington County Board of Commissioners during its Tuesday meeting. The agreement covers four roadway improvement projects to be constructed over the next several years, totaling about $45.3 million. Nike is paying $10.1 million of that cost in transportation development tax (TDT). Nike’s TDT payment was calculated based on the square footage of the expansion occurring at their World Headquarters campus, in accordance with the County’s TDT ordinance.

The Washington County School Access Improvement Study was presented to the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday [March 15]. The study, a part of the County’s Safe Routes to School Program, provides the first comprehensive look at the extent of traffic infrastructure barriers that prevent or limit students’ ability to walk to school safely.

Scoggins Valley Road will be closed for six weeks starting March 28. During the closure, two projects will be completed. A slide near Deacon Drive will be stabilized and subsurface drainage will be improved at the Stepien Road intersection.

The detour for construction of the Verboort-Purdin/OR 47 roundabout is being modified, effective Friday (March 11), to allow only local traffic on Verboort Road west of Martin Road through McKibbin Road.

About $5.8 million in Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) funding has been awarded to Washington County for maintenance of about five miles of road surrounding Henry Hagg Lake.

Updated Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Flood Insurance Rate maps will be available for public review at an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. March 17 at the Washington County Public Services Building, 155 N. First Avenue, Hillsboro.

Information on the replacement of the Spring Hill Road bridge over the Tualatin River Overflow will be presented at an open house from 5-7 p.m. March 16 at Gaston Jr./Sr. High School, 300 Park St., Gaston.

Verboort Road will be temporarily closed east of OR 47 from March 7 through mid-July for construction of a roundabout at the OR 47 and Verboort-Purdin Road intersection. Dates are subject to change.

Improvements to Walnut Street, between 116th and Tiedeman avenues will be discussed at a “meet the contractor” open house from 5-7 p.m. March 3 at St. Anthony Catholic School, 12520 SW Grant Ave.

A “meet the contractor” open house for the 124th Avenue Extension and Waterline Project will be held 5-7 p.m. March 2 at the Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue Training Center, 12400 SW Tonquin Road.
