For Immediate Release: Tuesday, February 16, 2016
Improvements to Walnut Street, between 116th and Tiedeman avenues will be discussed at a "meet the contractor" open house from 5-7 p.m. March 3 at St. Anthony Catholic School, 12520 SW Grant Ave.
The event, sponsored by the Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation and the City of Tigard, is a chance for the public to meet the contractor, Rotschy, Inc., and to learn more about the construction schedule and design plans. Project staff will be on hand to answer questions and solicit comments. No formal presentation is planned.
The $6.9 million project calls for the widening of Walnut Street between 116th and Tiedeman avenues to one lane in each direction with a continuous center turn lane. Bike lanes, street lighting, sidewalks, replacement of a culvert, and drainage upgrades are also planned. Improvements at the intersection of 135th Avenue will include a new traffic signal, continuous bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and new street lighting. In addition to road improvements, the City of Tigard will be extending its sewer line between 114th Terrace and Tiedeman Avenue.
Work is expected to begin in March, with a three-week road closure of Walnut Street near Fowler Middle School scheduled for summer, when school is not in session, for the culvert replacement. Notification about the closure and the detour will be provided once dates are confirmed.
Completion is scheduled for spring of 2017. For more information, visit the project website, or contact Kim Haughn, Public Information Officer, at 503-846-7822 or [email protected].
