The detour for construction of the Verboort-Purdin/OR 47 roundabout is being modified, effective Friday (March 11), to allow only local traffic on Verboort Road west of Martin Road through McKibbin Road.
All non-local traffic will continue to be directed south on Martin Road. Verboort Road will be closed to all traffic east of Highway 47 to McKibben Road. Highway 47 will remain open at all times.
"We are appealing to all non-local traffic to please use the designated detour, which is south on Martin to Highway 47," said Andrew Singelakis, director, Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation.
Starting Monday (March 7) Verboort Road was closed to all westbound traffic to prevent motorists from ignoring the posted public detour, and cutting through neighborhood streets that are not meant for high-traffic volumes.
"Much of the traffic in this area is generated by commuters," Singelakis said. "We're asking commuters to respect the local access only signs and drive the designated detour. It's a safety issue for travelers and residents."
This detour is expected to be in effect through mid-July. At that point, both Verboort and Purdin roads will be restricted to right-in and right-out access only for four weeks. Following these restrictions, Purdin Road will be temporarily closed west of OR 47 for six weeks. Once dates are confirmed, Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation will mail notifications to neighboring properties. OR 47 will remain open at all times.
