Washington County Board Approves Five-Year Transportation Funding Program

MSTIP 3d includes $160 million for 19 multi-modal road projects throughout the county

On July 24, 2012, Washington County's Board of Commissioners adopted a $175 million five-year funding program for the next stage of the county’s ongoing Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program—MSTIP 3d—which begins with the 2013/14 fiscal year. MSTIP 3d includes approximately $160 million for 19 multi-modal road projects around the county. “In addition to expanding vehicular capacity, these projects provide sidewalks and bike lanes in areas where none currently exist,” said Andrew Singelakis, the county’s Director of Land Use and Transportation.

Other MSTIP 3d program elements include $10 million for replacement of deficient rural bridges, $5 million that will be used to help leverage other local, state and federal transportation funding (which may include bicycle and pedestrian projects), and $500,000 for expansion of the county’s advanced traffic management system. Specific projects for these set asides will be programmed in the future.
