Visit the MSTIP 3D Virtual Open House March 23 - April 8

In addition to an Open House event that was held on March 22, Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation invites the public to view a “Virtual Open House” anytime between March 23 and April 8 to learn more about potential road projects being considered for funding in an upcoming phase of the county’s Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP 3D). MSTIP is a key piece of the county’s transportation funding strategy. This unique and innovative pay-as-you-go program uses local property taxes to fund major transportation improvements countywide. Since 1986, MSTIP has funded 111 projects throughout the county totaling $555 million. These projects have improved mobility for all road users—cars, freight, transit, bicycles and pedestrians.

We anticipate a total allocation of $175 million for MSTIP 3D—an average of $35 million per year. That’s enough funding to construct fewer than half of the project candidates that are being presented for public review and comment in the Virtual Open House. Public input will help inform MSTIP decision makers on the Washington County Coordinating Committee and the Washington County Board of Commissioners in the coming months as they consider which MSTIP 3D projects to advance. MSTIP 3D will not require a tax increase or new taxes—funding will come from existing property tax revenues.
