Volunteer and Internship Opportunities
- STEP Mentoring: Support a youth involved in the Juvenile system
- Graduate Counseling Intern: Work as a therapist to juvenile justice involved youth, families, and victims. (You must be enrolled in a graduate program for social work, counseling, or art therapy). Positions are available at the department and at Harkins House.
- Undergraduate Intern: Pair with a juvenile counselor to learn the work or assist with milieu management at Harkins House.
- Therapy Animal Teams for Project Hope: Bring your dog to comfort youth and victims (You and your dog must be certified)
Requirements

Pass a background check (criminal & driving) & be fingerprinted

Be 20 or older
-
Follow all policies, procedures & laws

Have reliable transportation (including a driver’s license & insurance if driving)

Complete training
-
Good communication skills
Disqualifications

Multiple traffic accidents or tickets in the past 2 years or a traffic crime in the past 5 years
-
No misdemeanor convictions in the last 5 years
-
No felony convictions in the last 10 years
-
No arrests or convictions of child abuse, sexual abuse, or domestic violence
