– A man was arrested after he stole a Frontier Communications van with a phone inside.  The man ditched the van and phone near the scene of the theft and deputies found him on foot nearby.  Deputies discovered the suspect used the stolen phone to take selfies with stolen property.

A wrong-way driver crashed on Highway 26, causing his car to burst into flames.  WCSO deputies cut the man’s seatbelt and then pulled him from the burning car, while other deputies used fire extinguishers to try to put the fire out.

30 individuals were arrested during a six-day enforcement mission focused on out-of-compliance sex offenders and individuals with outstanding warrants.

WCSO deputies serving the City of Cornelius arrested a mother after she left her two young children unattended at a city park while she acquired a new tattoo for herself.

A Hillsboro man remains hospitalized after being assaulted at an early morning party. Deputies found the victim with severe injuries to his head and face.

Detectives began an investigation in 2012 after a cognitively-delayed child came forward and reported that Luis Bautista had sexually abused her when she was younger. Mr. Bautista was sentenced to 99 months in prison for his crimes.

Several county residents have reported that an unknown caller told them a family member was being held hostage. During the calls, realistic-sounding screams and yelling could be heard in the background. The caller demanded ransom money in order to release the hostage. There is no evidence in the reports that anyone has actually been kidnapped or harmed.

Washington County Sheriff Pat Garrett participated in a panel discussion which addressed the topic of “Responses to Hate from Local & Federal Law Enforcement Agencies.” The panel was part of the Portland Hate Crimes Forum, an afternoon event hosted by the Coalition Against Hate Crime and held at the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education in Portland.
