The Law Enforcement Council of Washington County has published a formal Position Statement on Medical Marijuana Dispensaries. In summary, the law enforcement leaders on the Council believe that proliferation of marijuana use and availability outside the scope of the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program is a serious public health concern and has negative implications for the welfare of our community.

Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting the Three Flags Seatbelt Blitz over the next two weeks. Beginning Monday February 10, 2014, law enforcement agencies from Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia will participate in a two-week campaign to encourage the use of hands free cell phone devices, seat belts and child safety restraints.

The Washington County Board of Commissioners recognized and presented a formal award to Sheriff Pat Garrett that marks the agency’s fourth consecutive national law enforcement accreditation by Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

An off-duty deputy stopped to render aid to a 16-year-old female who appeared to be having a seizure on the side of the road. Further investigation indicates that she and another juvenile suffered from a drug overdose on a drug called "25i." One male juvenile was later arrested in relation to the overdoses.

During the last couple of days, Sheriff's Deputies have taken numerous reports from citizens who reported a deputy is calling victims about warrants for their arrest. The suspect(s) are telling victims they must pay a fine or fee to resolve the warrant.

Washington County Sheriff's Deputies will be on the roads providing extra patrol to enhance safety for this Super Bowl weekend.

Law enforcement officers dedicated to the detail completed 452 traffic stops yesterday between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Of those stops, 104 citations were issued for failing to maintain a safe distance from emergency vehicles.

Local law enforcement agencies will be on the roads with an emphasis to educate drivers of the Move-Over law. This law was created to help keep emergency personnel safer while on the roadways.

Earlier this month, concerned citizens came forward to report suspicions that an Aloha High School teacher, Eric Wise, 37, was involved in a sexual relationship with a former student, who was underage at the time. Washington County Sheriff’s Detective investigated the allegations and arrested Mr. Wise.

Washington County Detectives received a report from the Department of Human Services (DHS) regarding alleged sex abuse by Michael Mallery, 48, of Portland who is the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Pacific University. Detectives investigated the allegations and a Grand Jury indicted Mr. Mallery for Sex Abuse I.
