A median is required by our design standards. The 40 mph speed limit requires more sight distance than exists to allow safe left turns. The speed limit would need to be reduced to 25 mph before left turns can be considered.
The median will not be removed as a part of this project. The median is required for safety due to limited sight distance around the curve.
We do not have the funds to pave and maintain our more than 250 miles of gravel roads.
Our Transportation Plan prioritizes road maintenance funding. Major roads are the highest priority and local roads are the lowest. Even small improvements to major roads are higher priority than general maintenance of local roads. Our Road Maintenance Program shows our current priorities.
A Supportive Neighborhood Plan establishes expectations between the shelter program operator, the landlord and the local community. The plan is created collaboratively with extensive neighborhood input, and helps to establish mutual goals, safety and security expectations and address property maintenance issues. The plan also includes a code of conduct for shelter program participants and expectations around communication between the County, the shelter program operator and neighbors. Each plan is unique and is an opportunity for the local community to share their concerns and suggestions.
Traffic signals on Century Boulevard at the light-rail crossing and at Cherry Drive are a single system. The signals respond together to pedestrians, trains and vehicles to prevent safety issues.
Hillsboro updated the traffic signals in 2019 to allow for more complex timing. The city will modify the timing with changes in traffic volume. The city is aware of traffic backups when two light-rail trains cross Century Boulevard in a short period of time and is working with TriMet to minimize backups safely.
Temporary impacts to the canyon are expected during bridge construction. Impacted areas will be rehabilitated.
The work site will be left in a secure manner daily to ensure safety of people and animals. It is important to note, the wildlife in the canyon are species familiar with the built environment of humans and tend to avoid areas when people or machinery are present.
The preferred bridge type will minimize long-term impacts with its long spans. After construction, wildlife will be free to roam the canyon in a manner very similar to today.
