An additional 28 miles of paving were added to the Washington County FY 2016-17 Road Maintenance Program during the Board of Commissioners Feb. 21 regular meeting.

Sixteen employees from Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation (LUT) have earned “Roads Scholar” status from the Oregon Technology Transfer Center.

The Washington County area is experiencing rain, snow and a mix of both, according to the National Weather Service.

Nearly 50 roads in Washington County were partially restricted or closed Wednesday night due to flooding.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm watch for an ice storm expected from about 4-8 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 17). Roads are expected to be extremely slippery; please avoid all unnecessary travel.

Flooding is possible Tuesday through Thursday (Jan. 17-19) throughout most of NW Oregon, including Washington County, according to a flood watch issued by the National Weather Service.

5 a.m. Jan. 13: Only one Washington County road - Cornelius Pass Road, south of Kaiser Road through Highway 30, remains closed for the morning commute. However, though road conditions are improving, travelers should expect icy patches and are reminded to drive with caution.

Washington County road crews are continuing to sand icy roads and address areas impacted by fallen trees and branches. For a current list of County roads impacted by trees or power lines, visit wc-roads.com.

Washington County has all its plows and sanders out. Crews are doing their best to keep roads clear, but road conditions remain hazardous and it is not safe to travel.

Though the National Weather Service is reporting some warmer temperatures, and though some of the ice is starting to melt, road conditions remain hazardous. Washington County and Oregon Department of Transportation continue to encourage travelers to stay home, if possible.
