U.S. 26 nighttime closures on April 10 and 11 for Bethany Boulevard project – expect delays

Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation will need to perform nighttime road closures on U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway) at Bethany Boulevard and Cornell Road on Wednesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 11 from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. in order to install bridge beams for the newly widened section of the Bethany Boulevard overcrossing.

Highway Closure Detour info (detour map):

• April 10 - Eastbound U.S. 26 traffic will be detoured onto the eastbound Bethany Boulevard/Cornell Road off-ramp, through the Bethany Boulevard and Cornell Road intersections and will re-enter U.S. 26 on the eastbound Cornell Road on-ramp.
  
  
• April 11 - Westbound U.S. 26 traffic will be detoured onto the westbound Cornell Road/Bethany Boulevard off-ramp, through the Cornell Road and Bethany Boulevard intersections and will re-enter U.S. 26 on the westbound Bethany Boulevard on-ramp.

Prior to the beam installation, semi trucks transporting the beams will arrive after 6:00 p.m. both Wednesday and Thursday and will be staged along the frontage roads between the Cornell Road and Bethany Boulevard intersections. During the daytime beam deliveries and nighttime closures, travelers are advised to use alternate routes or expect delays of up to 20 minutes on both frontage roads, and on Bethany Boulevard and Cornell Road near the overcrossing.

This project is widening Bethany Boulevard between Cornell Road and West Union Road, including the U.S. 26 overcrossing. Additional improvements include bicycle and pedestrian facilities, street lighting and utility upgrades. The project is funded through the County’s Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP). Construction is anticipated to be completed by summer 2014.
