Washington County's Department of Land Use & Transportation will perform overnight closures on U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway) between Bethany Boulevard and Cornell Road each night beginning Monday, October 7 through Friday, October 11. Closure hours will be from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. Crews will be removing the bridge formwork from the newly widened Bethany Boulevard overpass.
That same week, the contractor will also perform daytime paving work on Bethany Boulevard at the U.S. 26 overpass and along the west side of Bethany Boulevard between Bronson Road and Oak Hills Drive. Daytime paving hours will be 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day.
During the U.S. 26 nighttime closures, eastbound traffic will be detoured off of U.S. 26 at the Bethany Boulevard off-ramp onto the frontage road and will re-enter U.S. 26 via the Cornell Road on-ramp. Westbound traffic will be detoured off U.S. 26 at the Cornell Road off-ramp, onto the frontage road and will re-enter U.S. 26 via the Bethany Boulevard on-ramp.
During the daytime paving work hours on Bethany Boulevard, one lane of traffic in each direction will be available; however, commuters should expect delays as trucks are entering and exiting the roadway.
This project is widening Bethany Boulevard between Cornell Road and West Union Road, including the U.S. 26 overcrossing. Additional improvements include bicycle and pedestrian facilities, street lighting and utility upgrades. The project is funded through the County’s Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP). Construction is anticipated to be completed by summer 2014.
