Starting June 1, Washington County and the City of Beaverton's contractor, K&E Excavating, Inc., will begin constructing much-needed improvements on Farmington Road between Murray Boulevard and Hocken Avenue. The project is scheduled to be completed by late spring 2017.
"Projects like this sustain our economic vitality and quality of life," said Andy Duyck, Washington County Chairman. "It will improve safety and mobility for all road users, and I'm excited to see the project launch."
To celebrate the construction kick off, media and residents are invited to attend the official groundbreaking at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 1, at Farmington Road and 2nd Street, in the lot previously occupied by Therapeutic Associates (map). Parking is available on 2nd Street. Mayor Denny Doyle, Washington County Chairman Duyck, County Commissioner Dick Schouten and several city councilors will host the event.
"We're excited to partner with Washington County on this important road project," said Doyle. "Whether you're traveling by car, bike or foot, these improvements will create a safer road while easing congestion."
Project Details
Improvements include adding a continuous center turn lane, bike lanes and sidewalks, street lighting and utility upgrades. The project also includes realigning 141st Avenue with 142nd Avenue at Farmington Road.
Traffic Impacts
Travelers should expect delays or use alternate routes for the duration of the project. TV Highway is the suggested alternate route for through traffic, including truck traffic. Construction will occur between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, with lane restrictions from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, when flaggers will move traffic through the work zone. Occasionally, work may also occur on Saturdays during daytime hours as needed.
Menlo Drive and 2nd Street will be closed at Farmington Road for eight weeks during the replacement of the Erickson Creek culvert. The closure is anticipated to begin mid- to late-June. Both roads will reopen to traffic in August. Traffic on Menlo and 2nd will be detoured to Erickson Avenue (detour map). Farmington Road will remain open during the side street closures.
Additional Information
Road widening work is funded through phase 3D of the County's Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP). Water and sanitary system improvements will be funded by the City of Beaverton.
