Road Closure Information

Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation announces an eight-month closure of Oleson Road at Fanno Creek (located south of Beaverton Hillsdale Highway) beginning Monday, July 28, 2014. The closure is necessary in order to replace the bridge over Fanno Creek. We anticipate the road will be reopened to motorists by March 28, 2015, assuming no unforeseen delays.

During the closure, motorists will be detoured to Hall Boulevard and Scholls Ferry Road. Detour signs will be provided along the designated detour route. Commuters should expect increased traffic and potential delays on the designated detour route during the closure period.

A temporary bicycle and pedestrian bridge will be installed at the closure location to allow access for walkers and bicyclists. Access to local residences and businesses will be available during the closure.

Preliminary road construction work will begin June 30, 2014 with minimal impacts to traffic.


July 8 "Meet the Contractor" Open House

A “Meet the Contractor” open house for this project will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Raleigh Hills K-8 School, 5225 SW Scholls Ferry Road, Portland. The public is invited to stop by anytime between 5 and 7 p.m. to meet the contractor, Carter and Company, and to learn more about the construction schedule and road closure.

Project Summary


Fanno Creek periodically floods, resulting in unanticipated road closures and substantial damage to the existing bridge on Oleson Road. This project will replace the existing bridge over Fanno Creek with a new structure built above the flood plain. Additional improvements include bicycle lanes, sidewalks, street lighting, landscaping, and storm drainage facilities. This project is funded through a combination of the Federal Highway Bridge Program, the county's Road Capital Bridge Program, and the county's Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP).
