Cornelius Pass Road Reopens with New Bridge over Rock Creek

Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation will reopen Cornelius Pass Road between Quatama Road and Cherry Drive in Hillsboro at 5 p.m. today, Monday, December 31, 2012, following a six-month closure for bridge replacement work.

Remaining road-widening improvements will continue on Cornelius Pass Road between Aloclek and Quatama, with project completion anticipated summer 2013. The road is being widened to five lanes (two travel lanes in each direction with a center turn lane). Additional improvements include the installation of a traffic signal at Cherry Drive, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, street lighting, landscaping, and upgrades to storm drainage and water quality treatment facilities.

While road work continues, one travel lane in each direction will be open for motorists through the project area. The speed limit through the work zone will be temporarily reduced to 25 MPH for the safety of workers and travelers. Travelers should expect delays through the work zone and are encouraged to continue using alternate routes. Pedestrians will be able to use the sidewalk on the east side of the roadway. Bicyclists can either merge into the travel lanes with vehicles or may walk their bikes along the east-side sidewalk.

During the temporary two-lane restriction, left turns will not be permitted from southbound Cornelius Pass Road to eastbound Wilkins Street. Travelers wishing to access Wilkins from the north must use Cornell Road to 206th Avenue or turn left on Quatama Road, followed by a left on 206th Avenue. Left turns onto Wilkins Street will be allowed again when the full five-lane Cornelius Pass Road improvements are constructed and opened to traffic. (Detour Map)

This project is being funded through a combination of county Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP) and Traffic Impact Fee (TIF) funds, and City of Hillsboro Traffic Impact Fee funds.
