For Immediate Release: Wednesday, May 04, 2011
Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation announces that Brookwood Avenue between Golden Road and Baseline will close for five months starting on May 23, 2011. The closure is necessary to widen Brookwood Avenue and to upgrade the sanitary sewer system. Roadway users are asked to use 32nd Avenue on the west or Cornelius Pass Road on the east during the five-month closure (detour route map).
The public is invited to attend a Meet the Contractor Open House on May 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at South Meadows Middle School, 4690 SE Davis Road, Hillsboro. Contractor representatives from Emery and Sons, Inc., project staff from Washington County and Clean Water Services, and design consultant David Evans & Associates will be available to provide project information and answer questions. The public will have an opportunity to learn about the construction schedule and view completed design drawings.
The project will widen Brookwood Avenue to three lanes (one lane in each direction and a center lane), make intersection improvements at Brookwood and Baseline, and add bike lanes, sidewalks and streetlights. The road improvements are funded through the Washington County Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP 3C).
In partnership with Clean Water Services and the City of Hillsboro, the project will also upgrade the sanitary sewer system. Combining the projects results in overall cost savings.
