Civil Service Commission

The Commission is comprised of five volunteers, one from each of the Commissioner districts, who provide a third-party review of the County's employment practices. The Commission is the appeal board for County employees and candidates for employment.

The Civil Service Commission is the appeal board for Washington County employees or applicants within a class specification that falls under Civil Service. Employees may appeal to the Civil Service Commission adverse personnel management decisions such as appointments, disciplinary actions, and classification allocations.

The Civil Service Commission was established pursuant to the Civil Service Act adopted by the citizens of Washington County. Membership duties and responsibilities of the Commission are defined in Washington County’s Personnel Rules and Regulations. The Commission is also the advisory body to the County’s Affirmative Action program.
