The 16th annual Public Health Recognition Awards will be presented on April 3, 2018, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., in Room 103 of the Washington Street Conference Center, located on the first floor of the parking structure at 102 SW Washington Street in downtown Hillsboro.

National Public Health Week is April 2-8, 2018. Washington County Department of Health and Human Services will honor significant contributions to public health that promote and support a culture of health and well-being in Washington County.

Any child without the required immunizations or an exemption certificate will not be allowed to attend school or child care on or after that day until they provide documentation of immunizations or exemption.

Registration is open for a six-week series called Powerful Tools for Caregivers that begins February 1, 2018.

After a nationwide recruitment, Randy Covey has been promoted to manager of Washington County Animal Services, which also operates the Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter.

Trained staff will administer the memory screenings and provide educational materials about memory concerns, brain health and caregiving.

From November 1 through March 1, Washington County Public Health monitors the daily air quality for levels of PM2.5, a type of fine air pollution caused in large part by wood smoke. As part of its efforts to improve air quality, in August 2016 Washington County’s Office of Community Development and the Department of Health and Human Services launched a Wood Stove Exchange program to reduce harmful pollution from wood smoke.

The 14th annual Washington County Family Caregivers Conference will take place on Friday, November 17, 2017.
