Registration is open for a six-week series called Powerful Tools for Caregivers that begins February 1, 2018. Washington County Disability, Aging and Veteran Services and Tuality Healthcare sponsor the series.

The classes take place on Thursdays, February 1 through March 8, from 1–3:30 p.m., at the Beaverton City Library, 12375 SW 5th Street.

“This educational series helps unpaid family caregivers take care of themselves while they are caring for a relative or friend with a chronic illness,” says instructor Deborah Letourneau. “Participants will learn how to reduce personal stress, communicate their needs effectively in challenging situations, deal with difficult emotions, and make tough caregiving decisions.”

The class is appropriate for anyone helping a parent, spouse or friend. The person in their care may live at home, in a facility or across the country.

There is a suggested donation of $35 to help cover the cost of the book, but payment is not required to attend the class.

Class size is limited, and registration is required by calling the Washington County Family Caregiver Support Program at 503-846-3089.
