Cornell Road (17th and 21st Avenues)

This project will improve safety at the intersections of Cornell Road with 17th and 21st avenues.

At the intersection of Cornell and 17th Avenue we will install a traffic signal and crosswalks and will replace some sidewalk on the northeast corner.

At the intersection of Cornell and 21st Avenue, we will install a splitter island that will separate traffic entering and exiting 21st Avenue. We will also construct a center median on Cornell Road and a crosswalk.

Both project locations will include:

  • New street lighting
  • New signs and pavement markings
  • Curb ramp replacements and sidewalk improvements
  • Storm drainage upgrades

Cornell Road is a County road, while 17th and 21st avenues are City of Hillsboro roads.

This project was awarded over $2 million the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) All Roads Transportation Safety (ARTS) grant program. It was selected for construction in the 2024-2027 State-wide Improvement Program (STIP) funding cycle. Grants were awarded using traffic crash data to select projects that would improve safety at a high level relative to cost. The scope of this project is tied to the ARTS funding.
