Sponsored by: Department of Land Use and Transportation, Operations and Maintenance Division

Motorists are no longer required to have traction devices on tires when traveling in the Washington County snow zones on 175th Avenue, Barnes Road and Cornell Road.

Motorists are still required to carry chains or traction tires in vehicles in these areas, which have high elevations and steep grades. During icy and snowy weather conditions, vehicles without traction devices are more likely to be involved in crashes or have difficulty driving on slick surfaces.

The snow zones are marked with yellow signs. During winter months, the signs read "carry chains or traction tires;' when restrictions are in effect, the message changes to "chains required."

Notifications are posted on www.wc-roads.com, the wc-roads Twitter and Facebook channels and the Washington County website.

Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation is committed to planning, building and maintaining a great transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users and operating the County roadway system in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner.
