Taylors Ferry Road is closed to through traffic about a month ahead of a scheduled bridge replacement, due to damage to the bridge.
The road is closed between 80th Avenue and Washington Drive. Damage to the bridge was discovered Thursday (June 13), and staff immediately implemented emergency closure proceedings. The bridge is scheduled for replacement from July 15-Dec. 31. Staff determined that the closure should remain in effect throughout the replacement process for both safety and fiscal reasons.
A signed detour is in place. Updates can be found on wc-roads.com, Facebook, Twitter, NextDoor and Trip Check.
In addition to the replacement of the Taylors Ferry Road bridge at 80th Avenue, the construction project includes replacement of a culvert on 80th Avenue, north of Florence Lane, and a new sidewalk on Taylors Ferry Road, between Washington Drive and 78th Place. Total cost is $2.6 million, funded through the County's Road Capital Bridge Fund, Road Fund and the Urban Road Maintenance District (URMD).
An open house on the project will be from 5-7 p.m. July 11 at Metzger Park Whiting Hall, 8400 SW Hemlock St. County staff will be available to answer questions and solicit comments. No formal presentation is planned; stop by any time during event hours.
Washington County is committed to planning, building and maintaining a great transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users, and operating the County roadway system in cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner.
