Washington County has activated the Cornell Road snow zone, from Cedar Hills Boulevard east to the County line, due to inclement weather.

A portion of the Barnes Road snow zone, from Baltic Avenue to the County line, was activated earlier this afternoon [Dec. 24].

Motorists are required by law to use traction control devices - including chains, studded tires, Mountain Snowflake tires, winter tires or "tire socks" - on their vehicles or avoid this area. Traction device violations are a "secondary offense," meaning citations will be issued when motorists are observed violating other traffic laws or driving unsafely. The citations carry a fine of up to $160.

Do not abandon vehicles on roads, as they can impact drivers' lines of sight and block snowplows, emergency vehicles, public transit and other vehicles. Abandoned vehicles will be reported to the Washington County Sheriff's Office for possible citation or towing. The citations carry a fine of about $110, plus towing costs.
