Repairs to the bridge over Butternut Creek on SW 229th Avenue bridge are scheduled for Monday through Thursday [Dec. 28-31], providing weather conditions remain favorable, resulting in daytime road closures between Tualatin Valley Highway and Rosedale Road.

The road will be open to local traffic only, with a full closure on the bridge, from 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. Travelers are advised to use alternate routes. Both the road and the bridge will be open after 5 p.m. and before 7:30 a.m.

Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation crews will replace deteriorating bridge pile caps during the closure. County engineers are confident the bridge is safe and in no danger of failure. The need to replace the pile caps was identified in a recent ODOT annual inspection. The County is closely monitoring the condition of the bridge until the repairs are complete.

Weather conditions have made scheduling the repairs challenging, said Dave Schamp, LUT Operations and Maintenance manager. Crews are committed to completing repairs by Jan. 4, when schools' winter breaks end.

"The weather continues to be the only thing that could hold up this project," Schamp said. "But the forecast is calling for favorable conditions, so we're hoping everything can go as scheduled. Unless Mother Nature throws us another serious weather event, we should be in good shape."
