SW Tualatin-Sherwood Road opened to all traffic about 12 hours earlier than anticipated, following a weekend railroad crossing replacement project at SW Boones Ferry Road.

The road opened at about 5 p.m. Sunday (May 19). Portland & Western Railroad (PNWR) had closed the road, west of SW Boones Ferry Road, at 8 p.m. Friday (May 17), and was scheduled to reopen the road at 5 a.m. Monday (May 20).

“There were no major hiccups, and the project was completed ahead of schedule,” said Stacy Shelter, County Engineer, Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation. “The PNWR crew and contractors were very efficient.”

Traffic delays during the closure were minimal.

“We publicized the closure well in advance, urging the traveling public to plan ahead,” Shetler said. “We appreciate travelers’ patience and cooperation.”

PNWR crews and contractors removed the tracks and pavement immediately adjacent to the tracks and installed new concrete panels to correct a significant dip at the crossing.

Washington County is committed to planning, building and maintaining a great transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users, and operating the County roadway system in cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner.
