An open house for improvements planned for the Elwert-Kruger roads intersection will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Middleton Elementary School, 23505 SW Old Hwy 99W.

The event, sponsored by the Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation and city of Sherwood is a chance for the public to view the proposed design, ask questions and provide comments. No formal presentation is planned.

The Elwert-Kruger intersection, located near Highway 99W, is congested and inefficient. The proposed preliminary design includes realigning Kruger with Elwert and installing a roundabout located about 500 feet north of the existing intersection. The roundabout will improve traffic flow and safety and provide a gateway for travelers entering the Sherwood city limits.

Sidewalks, bicycle lanes, streetlights and landscaping improvements will be made to Elwert. Kruger will remain a local rural road with two travel lanes and shoulders. Improvements to the Highway 99W intersection are being considered in partnership with ODOT.

The project will be funded through the County's Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program Phase (MSTIP 3d). Construction is anticipated in 2018 or 2019; subject to change.

Washington County is committed to planning, building and maintaining a great transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users, and operating the County roadway system in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner.
