Media release

For Immediate Release: Monday, May 10, 2010

Sponsored by: Department of Land Use and Transportation, Division

Washington County invites the interested public to attend an Open House for the Brookwood Avenue widening project on Wednesday May 26, 2010 at South Meadows Middle School at 4690 SE Davis Road in Hillsboro from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The purpose of the open house is to provide information on proposed improvements for Brookwood Avenue from SE 49th Avenue (near TV Hwy) to East Main Street. Improvements include a center turn lane, bike lanes, sidewalks, and streetlights to address the safety deficiencies and improve traffic flow. A road closure will be necessary on Brookwood Avenue through the curves to facilitate reconstruction.

Washington County staff, along with other members of the project design team, will be available to answer questions and provide information about the design and project schedule. This project is in preliminary design. Construction is anticipated to begin Spring 2011 with completion at the end of 2012.

As part of this project, Clean Water Services will fund and upgrade the sanitary sewer for future development of the Dawson Creek drainage basin area within the City of Hillsboro. This part of the work will be completed in October 2011. Combining both projects will result in a cost savings.

Funding for Brookwood Avenue comes from Washington County's Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP 3C).
