For Immediate Release: Tuesday, May 23, 2017
Walker Road, between 174th and Schendel avenues, will have lane closures from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m May 24, through Friday, May 26.
Flaggers will direct traffic during the closures. Travelers should expect delays or use alternate routes. Crews will be milling, grinding away part of the old road surface in preparation for paving. The milled road will be rough until paving is completed. Motorcyclists and bicyclists should use caution. The speed limit is reduced to 35 mph through the work zone. Paving is expected to take place June 1-9.
The work is part of the Walker Road Phase 1 improvement project, which includes widening Walker Road between 173rd and Schendel avenues to five lanes with continuous bicycle and pedestrian facilities, improvements to storm drainage and street lighting.
The $5.8 million Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP) project is the first in a series of improvement projects including 158th Avenue, Jenkins Road and three phases of Walker Road.
