Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation (LUT) will join many other public works agencies across the nation to raise awareness and recognize the important role public works services play in our daily lives.

Sponsored by the American Public Works Association, this year's theme is "Ready and Resilient." The theme highlights the ability of public works professionals to perform regular public works duties and be ready at a moment's notice to react as first responders during natural disasters and overcome trials seen in the field.

“Nearly every LUT employee supports the planning, design, construction and maintenance of the county transportation system,” said Stephen Roberts, Director, LUT. “The system supports our economy and connects us to the essential destinations where we live, work, learn and play.”

To kick off Public Works Week, the public is invited to a family-friendly Public Works Fair, 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 14, In the Beaverton City Park next to the Beaverton Farmers Market. Children can win prizes and take home fun, educational materials. Public Works staff from LUT, city of Beaverton, Oregon Department of Transportation and Tualatin Valley Water District will be there with activities and information.

Washington County is committed to planning, building and maintaining a great transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users, and operating the County roadway system in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner.
