For Immediate Release: Thursday, September 02, 2010
Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation announces large bridge beams will be delivered to NW Cornelius Pass Road (on the south side) the week of September 13, 2010. Delays can be expected during the delivery on I-5, OR 217, SW TV Highway and Cornelius Pass Road. There will be three days of delivery during that week, definite dates are unknown.
The beams are 183 feet long and are the longest precast / prestressed non-segmental bridge beams in Oregon and possibly the Northwest. They are made and produced in Harrisburg, Oregon. They are the same type as those used on the River Road Bridge project south of Hillsboro over a year ago.
The trucks will turn on Baseline and back up to the Cornelius Pass Road project site. The traffic signal at Baseline and Cornelius Pass Road will shut down for a few hours during this time. It's estimated that the trucks will start entering TV Highway around 9 AM. Washington County will do its best to minimize traffic delays. The public is encouraged to avoid the area if possible.
NW Cornelius Pass Road (between Kian and Samantha Lanes) is on schedule to open again by December 2010. However, the project will not be fully completed until July 2011.
Project improvements include replacing the bridge over Beaverton Creek, widening NW Cornelius Pass Road (between Frances and Wilkins Streets) to five lanes (including a center lane for turning), street lights, bike lanes and sidewalks. These improvements will reduce congestion and improve safety.
This project is a partnering effort between Washington County and the City of Hillsboro. Funding is provided by Washington County's Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP) and the City of Hillsboro. Washington County is committed to building and maintaining the best transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users, and operating the county roadway system in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner.
