Keep signs out of the right-of-way

Signs in the public right-of-way, including political signs, can block traffic signs, streetlights, impair travelers' line of sight and visibility, and pedestrian access.

Signs placed in the road right-of-way, which generally includes the roadway, ditches, shoulders and sidewalks, are illegal. Signs should not be attached to traffic signposts, power poles or signal cabinets. Illegally placed signs along County roads are subject to removal by Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation (LUT).

To report problem areas, call 503-846-7623 or email LUT Operations and Maintenance Division. Signs will be removed as crews are available and/or when Operations and Maintenance crews are in the area.
