A Grand Opening Celebration for the David Hill Road Extension and Roundabout project - including a chance to bike, hike, roll and stroll the new roadway - will be from 10 a.m.-noon Friday, Aug. 4, at the project location.

The event is hosted by Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation (LUT) and the city of Forest Grove. A brief program including remarks from Washington County Commissioner Bob Terry, District 4; Mayor Peter Truax, Forest Grove; and Shelley Oylear, LUT Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator, will kick off the event.

Following the program, attendees are invited to Bike Hike Roll Stroll the new roadway in celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act- compliant bicycle-pedestrian facilities. Bike Hike Roll Stroll is Washington County's new active transportation program. There will be healthy snacks, water bottles and bags of traffic-safety materials for children following the walk.

During the event, the newly constructed portion of David Hill Road, east of Brooke Street to Hwy 47, will be closed to through traffic. To access the event from Hwy 47, head southwest on Sunset Drive, west on Bonnie Lane and north on Main Street. Flaggers will assist with parking. See map.

The David Hill Road Extension and Roundabout connects David Hill Road to Hwy 47. It includes one travel lane in each direction, bicycle lanes, planter strips, a sidewalk on the south side of the road and a center median.

The road extension project was funded through the County's Major Streets Transportation Improvement Project (MSTIP) 3d.
