Eight road safety improvement projects were recommended for funding in FY 2017-18 by the Urban Road Maintenance District Advisory Committee (URMDAC) during its Nov. 16 meeting.
The projects, which will improve pedestrian safety on County roads eligible for the URMD Safety Improvement program, are:
- 143rd Avenue from Melody to house #2000 - sidewalk on east side (CPO 1)
- 175th Avenue from Kinnaman to Chris - sidewalk on east side (CPO 6)
- 214th Avenue from TV Hwy to Johnson - paved pathway on east side(CPO 6)
- Alexander Street from 198th to 209th - sidewalk on south side (CPO 6)
- Johnson Street from Jasmine to house - paved pathway on south side #2725 (CPO 6)
- Johnson Street from 214th to house #21415 - sidewalk on north side (CPO 6)
- Taylors Ferry Road from 78th to Washington - paved pathway on north side (CPO 3/4M)
- Thompson Road from Knollview to 114th - paved pathway on south side (CPO 1)
URMDAC selected the projects unanimously from 23 top safety improvement candidates following a public comment period.
"The proposed projects generated 278 public comments, a really impressive response from the citizens of Washington County," said Bonnie Hadley, URMDAC chair." The advisory committee would like to thank the public for this valuable feedback."
After review by Department of Land Use & Transportation staff, these URMD Safety Improvement projects will be included in the FY 2017-18 Road Maintenance Program presented to the Board of County Commissioners for approval in June.
