For Immediate Release: Monday, March 09, 2009
Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation will close SE Witch Hazel Road between SE River Road and SE 39th Avenue in Hillsboro from February 16 through April 2, 2009. Local access for residence and service providers will be available from the east end near SE 39th Avenue.
This is the second of three construction stages. The closure is necessary to install a new sanitary line, a storm sewer system and widen the road. Signs with closure dates have been posted. Detour signs will be posted prior to the closure directing motorists to TV Highway, SE Brookwood Ave and SE Davis Road around the construction site (see map). This closure was approved by the Washington County Board of Commissioners on October 28, 2008.
SE River Road between SE Davis Road and SE Witch Hazel Road will remain closed to traffic through May 15, 2009.
The new improvements will replace the River Road Bridge over Rock Creek, widen SE River Road between SE Rood Bridge Road and SE Davis Road to three lanes with bike lanes and sidewalks, and improve SE Witch Hazel Road between SE River Road and SE 38th Court. Sewer and waterlines will also be upgraded.
The project is funded by Washington County's Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP), in partnership with the City of Hillsboro, Clean Water Services and the Hillsboro School District.
