Part of the 170th/173rd Improvement Project:
Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation is improving the NW 170/173 roadway corridor between Walker and Baseline roads to facilitate north-south traffic flow. Due to construction activity, NW 173rd Avenue at Waterhouse Creek, just south of Walker Road, has been closed since July. It had been scheduled to reopen September 15, but the closure has been unavoidably extended two weeks, and the road will now reopen Sept 29. Also, because the arterial route will change from 173rd/Baseline to 170th/Baseline, the signal at 173rd and Baseline will be removed. 173rd from Baseline to Shady Fir Loop will become a Neighborhood Route.
The new roadway will start at 170th/Baseline and end at 173rd/Walker. This new link, 170th /173rd, will be the major arterial route. It includes a rebuilt three-lane connection, with bike lanes, sidewalks, a new drainage structure for the Willow Creek tributary, streetlights and a new traffic signal at 170th and Lisa. To view the new alignment, go to the project web site at www.deainc.com/170-173/2521-rec-align.pdf.
This project is being paid for via county property taxes through the county's Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program 3 (MSTIP 3), as approved by voters in 1995. For more information, you may contact Bill Ihly at 503-846-7831, [email protected], or check the web site.
Washington County is committed to building and maintaining the best transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users, and operating the county roadway system in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner. We appreciate everyone's patience with construction delays.
